How to play Cribbage?

Players begin by cutting the deck to determine who becomes the dealer. The player with the lowest card takes the role and earns the advantage of the first crib. This step sets up the turn order and scoring priority for the round.

Next, in the start of each round, each player selects two cards from their hand to place into the crib, creating a secondary hand that only the dealer will score. Then comes discarding which is a strategic moment, influenced by hand potential and whether or not the player holds the crib.

The play consists of the players take turns laying down one card at a time, aiming to reach exact totals like 15 or 31 and to form scoring combinations such as "Pairs" or "Runs". This phase is where tactical thinking and card memory can gain key points through "Pegging".

Then comes the "Show" stage - After all cards are played, players score their hands in a set order - non-dealer first, then the dealer, and finally the crib. Points are awarded for 15s, Pairs, Runs, Flushes, and Nobs, with each combination tallied for maximum scoring.

The points are as follows:

Fifteen (cards adding upto 15 points) = 2
Pair (pair of cards of same rank) = 2
Royal Pair (three cards of same rank) = 6
Double Royal Pair (four cards of the same rank) = 12
Run of three (three cards of consecutive ranks) = 3
Run of four (four cards of consecutive ranks) = 4
Run of five (five cards of consecutive ranks) = 5
4-card flush (all cards or hand/crib are of same suit) = 4
5-card flush (all cards or hand/crib of same suit of start card) = 5
Nob (jack in hand/crib of same suit as start card) = 1
Thirty-one (cards adding to 31 points) = 2
His Heels (Jack as starter card for dealer) = 2
Last Card (last card played below 31 while playing) = 1
Double run of three (two 3-card runs and a pair) = 6+2
Double run of four (two 4-card runs and a pair) = 8+2
Triple run of three (three 3-card runs and a royal pair) = 9+6
Double Double run of three (four 3-card runs and two pairs) = 12+4
